Clause 1Who you're dealing with

GRIPswich Bouldering is a bouldering gym at 17a Thorn St, Ipswich, QLD, 4306. In these terms, "we", "us" and "GRIPswich" mean:

"You" means anyone who climbs with us, buys anything from us, books a class, or uses this website. If you're signing or buying for someone under 18, "you" means both you and that child.

Clause 2Agreeing to these terms

You agree to these terms when you do any of the following:

• enter the gym
• buy a day pass, 10-visit pass, membership, class or anything else from us
• book a class online or at the front desk
• sign our waiver
• use this website

Some things you buy have their own extra terms as well as these ones. Memberships are covered by our Membership Terms. Everyone who climbs is bound by our Gym Rules and by the waiver they sign. If those documents and this one ever disagree, the more specific document wins for the thing it covers.

Clause 3Conditions of entry

In short: sign the waiver, do the induction once, follow the rules, and supervise your kids. That's it.

Before you climb, every single time, three things have to be true:

1. You have a current signed waiver. Every climber signs one — once, and again only if we ever update the wording, which we'll tell you about before it happens. Climbers under 18 must have theirs completed by a parent or legal guardian. You can sign it online before you arrive, or at the front desk on the day.
2. You have completed our safety induction. Everyone who climbs here does the induction before their first climb — how to fall, mat awareness and gym etiquette. It runs on the hour and every half-hour during opening hours and takes a few minutes. We may ask you to repeat it if it's been a long time between visits, or if we think you need it.
3. You've paid for your visit, or you hold a current membership or an unused visit on a 10-visit pass.

Children and supervision

Bouldering means climbing above matting without ropes, and children need eyes on them. Our supervision requirements are set out in full in the Gym Rules, and they are conditions of entry, not suggestions — if the supervising adult leaves, the child stops climbing.

When we'll refuse entry

We can ask you to leave, without a refund, if you:

• are affected by alcohol or drugs
• behave in a way that puts yourself, other climbers or our staff at risk
• threaten, harass or abuse anyone here
• ignore our staff's safety directions or our Gym Rules
• damage our walls, holds, mats or equipment on purpose

We can also refuse entry if you don't have a signed waiver or completed induction, or if you have an open wound or an infectious illness. Those aren't your fault, so those aren't forfeitures — if we turn you away for one of them, you get your money back or a pass to use another day.

We'd much rather have a quiet word than turn anyone away, and in practice we almost always do. But the mats are shared, and this is how we keep them safe.

Clause 4Day passes

A day pass covers you from the moment you check in until we close on that same day. Come and go as you like — there are no time slots and no bookings.

• Day passes are valid on the day you buy them only, and don't carry over.
• Gear hire isn't included — shoes are $5 and chalk is $3.
• If we close early for any reason on the day you've bought a pass, we'll give you a replacement pass or a refund. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are set out in our Refunds & Cancellations policy.

Clause 510-visit passes

A 10-visit pass is ten day-pass entries, bought up front at a discount. Adult passes are $179 and youth passes (ages 5–17) are $149.

• Valid for 12 months from the date you buy it. We'll tell you how many visits you have left every time you check in, and you can see the balance in your member portal.
• Shareable. Unlike a membership, you can bring a friend in on your pass — a 10-visit pass can be used as ten visits by you, or one visit each by ten different people, or anything in between. Everyone using it still needs their own signed waiver and completed induction.
• A youth pass covers entry for climbers aged 5–17; from 18 the adult rate applies. An adult entering on a youth pass pays the difference at the desk.
• Gear hire isn't included — shoes are $5 and chalk is $3.
• A pass can't be cashed out on demand — but it is refundable in the situations set out in our Refunds & Cancellations policy, including an unused pass within 30 days and unused visits if you're injured or moving away.

Clause 6Classes and bookings

Classes are booked through this website or at the front desk. Spaces are limited and a booking is confirmed only once you get our confirmation email.

Cancelling a class

When we cancel a class

Occasionally we have to cancel — a coach is sick, or numbers are too low to run the session properly. If we cancel, you get the class credited back or refunded in full, whichever you'd prefer. We'll always contact you on the details you booked with.

Class packs and member rates

• Class packs are prepaid blocks of classes, usable across any class on our timetable, and valid for 12 months from purchase.
• Members get 50% off every class, casual or pack, for as long as the membership is active. If your membership stops, the member rate stops with it — any classes already bought at the member rate stay yours to use.
• Kids' and youth programs run in weekly blocks. If your child can't make a session, tell us before it starts and we'll do our best to fit them into another class that week.

Classes have minimum ages, listed on the classes page. We'll move a climber to a more suitable class if the one they've booked isn't right for them, and we'll talk to you first.

Clause 7The first-timer free week

If it's your first time climbing at GRIPswich, we'll add a free week of unlimited climbing to your account after your first paid visit. The conditions:

• It's one free week per person, ever — for genuinely new climbers, not a repeatable deal.
• It starts the day after your first paid visit and runs for seven consecutive days. It can't be paused, banked or moved.
• It covers entry only. Gear hire, classes and retail aren't included.
• It isn't transferable and has no cash value.
• Your mates get their own free week on their own first visit — that's the point of it.

Ask at the front desk after your first paid visit and we'll set it up for you on the spot.

Clause 8Discounts and concessions

We take 10% off adult day passes and the adult 10-visit pass for:

• nurses, firefighters, police, ambulance officers and ADF/defence personnel
• full-time students

• Show us your service ID or current full-time student ID at the front desk, each time you buy.
• One discount per person. It can't be combined with another discount or offer.
• It does not apply to memberships. The weekly membership rates are the same for everyone. If you held a discounted “Concession” membership before 2 September 2026 you keep that rate — we're not putting anyone's price up, and we'd write to you before we ever did.

Clause 9Play On! Sports Vouchers

We accept Queensland Government Play On! Sports Vouchers — the program that replaced FairPlay — for kids' memberships, multi-visit passes and youth programs.

• Vouchers are issued and funded by the Queensland Government, and the Government's own conditions apply — eligibility, voucher value and expiry are set by them, not by us.
• Bring the voucher (printed or on your phone) to the front desk and we'll claim it on your child's behalf.
• Vouchers cover entry, passes and program fees. They don't cover gear hire, retail purchases or café items — that's the one that catches people out, so we're saying it plainly.
• If the voucher is worth more than what you're buying, the balance stays on the voucher under the Government's rules. We can't refund a voucher as cash or credit it to another child.

Clause 10Guest passes

Adult, youth and family memberships include one free guest pass per month.

• The guest pass covers one visit for one person, and can only be used while you're climbing with them.
• Your guest signs their own waiver and completes their own induction, same as anyone.
• It doesn't stack up — one per month, use it or lose it.
• Gear hire isn't included.

Clause 11Gear hire

Climbing shoes are $5 and chalk is $3. Shoe hire is free with any adult, youth or family membership; chalk isn't included with a membership.

• Grab either at reception on your way in — no need to book ahead.
• Hired gear stays ours, and comes back at the end of your session.
• Normal wear and tear is on us. If gear is lost, or damaged beyond normal wear, we may charge you the reasonable cost of replacing it.
• Tell us straight away if hired gear doesn't feel right, and we'll swap it.

You need climbing shoes to climb — bare feet, socks and street shoes don't work on the walls. If you don't own a pair, hire ours.

Clause 12Prices and changes

• All prices on this site are in Australian dollars and include GST.
• The price that applies is the one shown when you buy.
• We can change our casual prices at any time, and any change applies to purchases made after it. Membership fees are different: an existing member's weekly rate is locked for as long as their membership runs unbroken, and we will not increase it. Price changes apply to new members only — see clause 11 of our Membership Terms.
• We do our best to keep this site accurate, but if a price is listed wrongly through an obvious error, we'll tell you before we take payment and you can decide whether to go ahead.

Clause 13Your belongings

Bring your gear in at your own risk. We're not responsible for personal property that's lost, stolen or damaged at the gym, except where that loss is caused by something we did wrong — nothing here takes away rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

Anything left behind goes in lost property. We hold it for 30 days, then donate or dispose of it. We don't hold on to food, drink or anything unhygienic.

Clause 14Using this website

• Everything on this site — text, photos, our name and logo — belongs to us or is used with permission. You're welcome to share links to it. Don't copy it for commercial use without asking.
• Don't try to break into, overload or interfere with the site, or use it to do anything unlawful.
• If you create an account, keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your login. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has got into it.
• We aim to keep the site up and accurate, but we can't promise it will never be down or never contain a mistake.
• Where we link to other sites — the Queensland Government voucher pages, for instance — we don't control them and aren't responsible for their content.

Clause 15Risk and liability

In short: climbing is genuinely risky and you take that risk on. But we still have to run the place properly, and nothing here removes the rights the law gives you.

Risk warning

Bouldering is a dangerous recreational activity. You climb above matting without ropes, and falling is a normal part of it. Injuries happen here — sprained ankles, broken wrists, and occasionally worse. Matting reduces how hard you land; it does not make landing safe. Collisions with other climbers, holds that spin or break, and landing badly on a mat are all obvious risks of the activity.

By climbing here you accept those risks. The full risk warning and release are in the waiver you sign before your first climb, and that waiver applies to every visit you make until you tell us in writing that you're withdrawing it.

Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law

The waiver you sign includes an exclusion of certain statutory guarantees for recreational services, which section 139A of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) permits a business like ours to ask you to agree to. That exclusion has limits set by the law itself: it does not cover injury or death caused by our reckless conduct, and it does not affect any other right you have. The waiver spells this out before you sign it.

Clause 16Complaints

If something's gone wrong, tell us — most things get sorted the same day by having a word with whoever's at the desk.

If you'd rather put it in writing, email info@gripswich.au. We'll acknowledge it within 2 business days and give you an answer within 10 business days. If it's going to take longer than that, we'll tell you why and when to expect an answer.

If we can't resolve it between us, you can contact the Queensland Office of Fair Trading, or take the matter to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Going to us first doesn't affect your right to do either.

Clause 17Changes to these terms

We update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.

The version that applies to a purchase is the one published when you made it. If we're making a change that materially affects members, we'll tell members directly — see the Membership Terms for how that works.

Clause 18Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, and the courts of Queensland deal with any dispute about them.

If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, that part is severed and the rest keeps working.
